Do You Know Him?

Because daily I need a reminder that I am serving a mighty God, one who can raise me from the depths, heal my broken heart and make me whole.

I read through Isaiah 53 again yesterday, after watching this video at Bible Study, and I got stuck in the first few verses, I have always had this rosy picture of Jesus in my minds eye, dark haired, handsome, but it Jesus was nothing spectacular, “He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.  He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him” (Verse 2).  He was plain and simple, nothing to write home about, he was despised and looked down upon, “He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not” (verse 3).

I read this passage over and over, and I just was stuck in reverence for a man who was fully God and fully man,  a plain man, that knew sorrow and suffering, a man who in his divinity did not have to bear the cross for me, but did knowing that he was born to sacrifice himself for me a sinner, a man who people hated, but couldn’t get rid of, one whose message is as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago.  He hasn’t changed, his story has remained true and life-changing.
