Into the Fire….

I read Daniel 3 today, and I was thinking about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego or Rack, Shack and Benny if you’re a Veggie Tales mama like I am.  Maybe for the duration of this blog, I’ll just call them “The 3 Amigos; because those names are really hard to spell!
I read over the passage a couple of times and just laughed at King Nebuchadnezzar in this chapter.  He was absolutely hilarious to me….then when I read it a third time, I kind of wondered if I am like that tyrant king? Always worshiping other gods (not literally) but you know what I mean.  Making my boys’ gods, or my spouse, or friends, or hobbies.  I am guilty of not fully understanding the saving power of the God I serve.  So in that way I am just as wicked as Nebuchadnezzar.  The thing that I love so much about reading about this goofy guy, is that when he saw the might of the Lord in saving Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  He fell down and worshiped God, and then went on to tell his kingdom,

“Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel and rescued his servants who trusted in him! They ignored the king’s orders and laid their bodies on the line rather than serve or worship any god but their own. “Therefore I issue this decree: Anyone anywhere, of any race, color, or creed, who says anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego will be ripped to pieces, limb from limb, and their houses torn down. There has never been a god who can pull off a rescue like this.”

I love that he was so quick to recognize the power of God, and I think it’s so funny that he had to issue such a harsh decree, I love that God can step in at just the right moment and win the heart of the strongest critic. Just like Nebuchadnezzar.  My prayer is that I would know and trust that God has the power to save.  That he is bigger than any obstacle I will face, and any heartache I will ever have.  Please God help me to trust you no matter what the cost, I want a faith like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Lord, I want to walk out of the fire untouched and with your name on my lips.
